Zamora Sheepdog Trial

We had a fantastic day at the Zamora Hills SDT. The course sort of blew my mind. The endurance of the dogs pretty much blew me away. And, the handlers blew their whistles!

The handler sends the dog from atop a hay bale right in front of the truck. The dogs runs up and down and up and down all the hills on the way to pick up the sheep. Most dogs ran to the right.

It was really quite a sight. On the outrun, the dog was out of sight for parts of it. On the fetch, some of the teams had dog and sheep out of sight for a few moments.

There was a great crowd. Good BBQ pork sandwiches. Great company to be had in the parking lot.

The Nevada girls took a break from having their minds blown to run and play on the gorgeous green hills.

By the end of the day, the sheep across the road started drifting back toward us, providing a lovely photo op.

Enough with your touristishness! Jane is all business.

Jane was busy taking notes, after running in the hills with her friends. She had been eavesdropping on Patrick's conversation with Riggs. It's hard to take it all in!

A Post For Judy

The new kids are so cute!! A boy and a girl. The mom definitely prefers the boy. He is clean as a whistle and the girl needs a good licking! But, she is letting them both nurse. The auntie in the next pen is hoping to adopt the girl.

Then, there's Jane. Cute, huh? This is an old cutting horse ranch. Cows. Horses. Now, sheep. Alot. In that arena. The one where Jane is lying in the, uh, "mud?" puddle. She didn't just lie in it. She wallowed in it. And enjoyed every second. And, it's deep.

Seven hours or so later, when we're home from the ranch, home from work.

I'm going to have to give her a bath. She sleeps on the bed, after a good day at the ranch. today, she had a very good day. Channeling my inner Judy. I summon the strength and energy.

Even the leashes and collars got a bath.
I have to thank my friends AvoDerm shampoo for the first go-round, and huge shout out to my friend Earth Bath Light Color Coat Brightner. Last but not least my super absorbent orange towels. . .you go above and beyond, every time! I love you guys!

Patrick likes us to have hats

I've been to two clinics with Patrick Shannahan of Red Top Kennel in Caldwell, Idaho. They are great clinics, and I would go even if I didn't get a new hat each time.

But, the hats are pretty great, too!

Channeling our inner sled dogs

In honor of the Yukon Quest sled dogs, these girls had raw turkey necks out in the snow tonight.

Late: Driving up to Patrick's

It was a beautiful drive, up to the Red Top clinic for young dogs in late January.

Jane and I had a great weekend working with Patrick and are very glad we went. Thanks again to Patrick Shannahan and Dianne Deal for putting on a fantastic weekend! Can't wait to see you again!!
